Membership in the cfe is it the right choice?

In terms of health insurance, expatriates, unlike our fellow citizens have the choice to join or not to CFE. This choice is neither definitive nor exclusive, in that the insured can join a branch only (Sickness - maternity - invalidity, accidents and occupational diseases, or old age) or three at a time.

If employees seconded by their companies continue to receive benefits French, they do not benefit from a detachment of the regime are necessarily local in the country on whose territory they operate. Many French expatriates adhere to the CFE (about 160,000 people in the world) to the diseased part, which does not however exempt from membership in the local diet. In the same vein, if the local plan does not cover well enough the expatriate and his family, nothing prevents him from insurance "extra" in the first known Euro or 1 USD with a private insurer.

Membership in the CFE is it the right choice?
Beforehand, note that membership of the CFE must be made 3 months to 2 years after the departure of France, or a member country of the European Economic Area (including Switzerland), otherwise the CFE will ask you 'pay an entrance fee equivalent to a maximum of two years of contributions (members under 35 years are not affected by this provision).

The choice is subjective, but your thinking should include several criteria:

• The protection offered by your local social system

• The amount of benefits: the CFE delivers the same services and uses the same nomenclature as the French Social Security. In fact, it is often necessary to obtain insurance called "complementary" to who will bear the cost or poorly reimbursed by the CFE. The advantage of the CFE is that it covers many hospitalizations and also all the affections Long Duration (ALD) which is not necessarily the case for local regimes of social protection. In return, dental, optical, certain medications, are not reimbursed. Note here that the French private insurers often mimic their guarantees to that of Social Security: an act will be refunded only if classification (except where specifically exempted). This is not necessarily the case for English private insurers listed reimbursement is often limited to what can reserve surprises ...

• Your health: adherence to the CFE is subject to any medical questionnaire, or any age requirement, unlike most private insurance plans. This is the mechanism of solidarity before the disease prevails.

• The amount of contributions: the level of contributions to the CFE depends on your status (employee, self-employed, student, retired), your age, and most of your earnings. Unlike private insurance, whether you or a family of 8 people will not change your annual subscription.

• Your age: the guarantees of the CFE are lifetime ... Even retired, you continue to receive benefits of the CFE until you die. Where many private insurance continue to ensure the first EUR or 1 USD from 65, the CFE and some insurers will provide you further until you die. This last point is important because many insurers do not provide in addition to the CFE as conditional to join before 63 years to their contract.
