Le surendettement des particuliers

The total number of cases of indebtedness filed with the secretariats of the commissions debt from January 2004 to December 2008 amounted to over 926,000, an average of 185,000 cases filed per year in debt.

The number of filings increased by 3% in 2008 and is obviously much more important in 2009 given the number of unemployed continues to rise.

Of the 926,000 cases of indebtedness filed since 2004, 780,000 cases have been admitted and 460,000 plans were accepted in the same period.

710,000 households are currently in debt in December 2008.

The average debt per case was 38,500 euros. The debt resulting from mortgages (present in 8% of cases) is an average of 76,900 euros.

For short-term loans, the average amounts are 17,600 euros, representing 52% of cases of over indebtedness.
