The principle of free sea rescue and mountain remains fully in force in France. But only downhill skiing and cross country skiing are the subject of a bye-law (Decree No. 87-141 of 3 March 1987) stating that municipalities may require persons rescued reimbursement of emergency that 'they have incurred in accidents resulting from the practice of sports.
This "exception" has the virtue of responsibility a little more skiers. However, last winter about 8.5 million practitioners of winter sports in France there were almost 140 000 injured have been taken over by the medical services in the mountains (of which 1 / 3 led by the services tracks).
12 people died and 10 runs off the slopes ** (Winter 2006-07), including 5 by avalanche. On average, a three-traumatic deaths is due to an avalanche burial. Severity of accidents tends to rise (+ 9% of hospital), and the number of collisions between skiers (13%).
The risk of accidents in snowboarding is higher than in alpine skiing: 1.5. Women over 25 are most at risk of knee sprain than men (3.5 times +).

Beyond the physical, a little accident so very expensive. Indeed, the means used by the emergency services are more effective but more expensive every year.
But the worst financially, but also and above all costs you have to pay if your responsibility is involved in a collision with another skier or if you trigger an avalanche, for example.
Be careful, you are not always insured for skiing by your liability insurance included in your comprehensive home.
Warning some ski insurance sold at the cash packages do not include either, Civil Liability for skiing.

• Skiers: adjust your bindings to make each stay by a professional
• Snowboarders: wear wrist guards.
• Put a helmet on your kids and feel free to wear one too!
• Finally, follow the signs on the slopes.
Finally, purchase insurance ski complete with high ceilings guarantees.
